The Choir of Our Lady of
Sorrows sings at the 10:30 AM Mass each Sunday during the choir
season
of September through June and rehearses
Thursday evenings from 7 to 8:30 PM. Additionally, it sings for
other liturgical celebrations as required
throughout the church year. The Choir is comprised of persons
drawn from the community who possess
requisite musical skills and a commitment to the established
schedule of rehearsals and services. In
addition, being part of a singing community is fun and the Choir
of Our Lady of Sorrows is no exception—we
enjoy singing and we enjoy one another.
The
choir’s mission is to join with the congregation in actively
contributing musically to liturgical
celebrations as
well as enriching these celebrations by adding musical elements which are beyond
the capabilities
of the congregation alone.
While the choir’s repertoire
spans all genres of choral music, it actively seeks to keep alive
the Church’s
vast treasury of sacred music from the
past. This is particularly true of Gregorianchant which the Church
recognizes as specially suited to the
Roman Liturgy.
